Almost all the people named "Rouleau" (including spelling variations) in the U.S. and Canada can trace their ancestry to one of three distinct Rouleau families from France.

Gabriel Rouleau, born around 1613 and believed to have been from the Normandy region of France, contracted to marry Mathurine LeRoux in Quebec City in 1652.

Louis Rouleau, born in 1654 in west-central French village of Missé, married Francoise Geoffrion in Montreal in 1696.

The brothers Pierre and Jean-Baptiste Rouleau are the progenitors of the third line.  The brothers came from Normandy.  Pierre, born in 1720, married Marie-Joseph Boucher in 1748; Jean-Baptiste, born in 1722, married Marguerite Langevin in 1754.  The brothers were both married in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatiere.
